I would like to take some time to review by looking at a patient who came in recently.

I am sure many of you have heard of herpes.

That condition where, when you are tired, blisters form on the lips or around the mouth and look unsightly..

These days a mask covers it, but it is exposed when you eat or drink coffee, so it is natural to feel self-conscious about it.

In today's post, I would like to share the secret to getting sores to heal quickly with fewer blisters. (Not a scam.)

Let's first look at the types of herpes (if you are only interested in the secret tip, you can scroll straight down, but please read to the end ^^)

It is called Human Herpes Virus (HHV), and there are several types. Let's go through them in order, starting from number 1.

HHV-1
This is another name for Herpes simplex virus-1, that is, herpes simplex type 1.
People say that types 1 and 2 are divided into above and below the waist, and it is easiest to understand type 1 as the one that appears on the face.
It often appears around the lips, so it is also called oral herpes (cold sores). It breaks out when you are tired, and most people are said to be carriers.

HHV-2
This is another name for Herpes simplex virus-2, that is, herpes simplex type 2, which typically appears around the genitals and buttocks.
It also flares up when you are tired, and because of where it appears, some patients feel embarrassed about coming to the clinic,
but you can simply take a photo with your phone at home and show it to me, so there is no need to worry too much.

HHV-3
This is another name for Varicella zoster virus, that is, shingles. I have posted about shingles before, so I will skip the detailed explanation.

HHV-4
This is another name for Epstein-Barr virus. You don't need to know about it..

HHV-5
This is another name for Cytomegalovirus, and again, you don't need to know about it.

HHV-6,7
To be honest, this is the one I wanted to mention when I started this post. It is the virus that causes roseola.
Recently, my 14-month-old second daughter showed me roseola with a fever above 39°C and some serious fussing..
It readily infects children aged 6-24 months, and it is characterized by a high fever lasting about 3 days that cannot be controlled with fever reducers, followed by a rash that spreads over the whole body as the fever comes down. My daughter was fine while she had the fever, but fussed enormously once the rash appeared, and it really hurt my heart that there was nothing I could do for her.

HHV-8
This is Kaposi sarcoma associated herpesvirus, and it is perfectly fine if you don't know about it.

We have looked at herpes simplex, shingles, and roseola, which, surprisingly, turned out to be viruses of the same family.

Today I will talk about how to get over herpes simplex quickly, which I imagine many of you are curious about.

Whether it is type 1 or type 2, the key points are the same.

Those of you who get herpes simplex repeatedly already know that characteristic feeling.

' Ah, this tingling feeling... a blister is probably going to come up tomorrow..? '

I think many of you will relate. In fact, this is what more than 90% of herpes simplex patients tell me.

Taking an antiviral medication right away when there is no blister yet but you feel that characteristic tingling is

This will be the fastest way to recover.

If you take the medication after the sores have already appeared, the condition has already progressed considerably, so the sores can even spread further while you are taking it,

If you take the medication preemptively, it shortens the course, and if you are lucky, the sores may not appear at all.

Please never throw away the leftover medication from a previous prescription, and be sure to keep it with you,

Please go to the clinic as soon as you feel it coming on and take the medication right away.
