Lifting is not a treatment that ‘pulls’ the skin.

Hello. I'm Dr. Cho Young-min.

It has been a while since I last wrote a post.

During lifting consultations, there is a question I hear very often.

“Doctor, isn’t lifting a treatment that pulls the face upward?”

Honestly, I think it is only natural to think that way.

After all, the word ‘lifting’ itself means ‘to pull up.’

But in reality, it is a little different.

Today I would like to tell you about the most commonly misunderstood point in lifting treatments.

Why does skin sag?

Many people think that fat is the cause of sagging.

Of course, fat has an effect too.

But in practice, many patients tell me that their weight is the same, yet only their face is not what it used to be.

The reason can be found inside the skin.

The skin contains a structure called collagen.

This collagen acts like a pillar that supports the skin.

When we are young, these pillars are strong, so the skin does not sag easily.

But as time passes, and collagen decreases and elasticity declines,

the skin comes to be affected by gravity a little more and more.

Gravity is truly diligent.

For Newton, it made an apple fall,

For us, it pulls the jawline down little by little.

No one, it turns out, can escape it.

So, what exactly does a lifting treatment do?

Many people think that a lifting device pulls the skin upward,

In reality, that is not the case.

Most non-surgical lifting devices deliver an appropriate thermal stimulus into the skin.

Then, in the process of recovering from that stimulation, our body begins to produce new collagen.

In other words,
it is closer to a treatment that does not pull the skin but helps it rebuild the strength to hold itself up.

That is why satisfaction with lifting is often higher 2–3 months after the treatment than right after it.

because it takes time for collagen to form.

That is why there are so many lifting devices.

In my practice, I also get asked this kind of question often.

“Is Ulthera better? Is Thermage better? Or is Sofwave better?”

Honestly, there is no single right answer to this question.

Each device targets a different skin layer,

because the roles each one excels at are also slightly different.

For example, one device treats the deep layers of the skin well,

Some devices are strong at improving elasticity in the dermal layer.

So what matters is

It is not about finding the ‘best device,’ but about finding the ‘device that suits my skin best’.

In the consultation room, I actually tend to spend the longest explaining this part.

Lifting is a treatment that depends on ‘dedicated care’ more than you might think.

Patients often ask me.

“Doctor, why is lifting at ANZ on the pricier side?”

The high cost of the devices is also one of the reasons.

But I think there is an even bigger reason than that.

Lifting is not a treatment that is finished just by pressing a button.

which area to treat first,

how much energy to use,

how to adjust for areas where the skin is thin,

decisions must be made continuously throughout the treatment.

This is exactly why results can differ even when the same device is used.

That is why I sometimes tell my patients this.

“Lifting is not a treatment that sells equipment; it is a treatment that sells dedicated care.”

It is a little ironic, but

The more dedicated care goes into lifting, the more the price inevitably rises a little.

Conversely, if the care is reduced, the price can be lowered.

But I do not think the results should be lowered along with it.

ANZ will continue to consider first, before the equipment,

carefully examining each person’s skin,

I want to be a dermatology clinic that thinks hard about the most suitable treatment.

Lifting devices have advanced a great deal recently.

But no matter how good the devices that come out, there is one thing that does not change.

Good results ultimately come from good judgment.

A device is a tool that assists treatment.

Which device was used is important too, but

Why that device was chosen and how it will be used matter even more.

In the next post, I will talk about Sofwave, which many people have been interested in recently.

by what principle Sofwave produces lifting,

I will also explain, as simply as possible, who this treatment is especially well suited to.
